Ever since the first car rolled out of pre-grid and onto the circuit in 1993, the Sabre brand has been synonymous with winning races. Between the years 1993 and 2000, Borland Racing Developments constructed and sold the Sabre 01 chassis, designed around the Formula Vee 1200 specifications of the day.

In the early to mid-2000s, Australian Formula Vee regulations underwent fundamental change with the introduction of the larger 1600cc motor, providing the catalyst to design a new chassis to suit. Following an extensive test program in 2009, the introduction of the Sabre 02 in 2010 proved a revelation.  Sharing many components with the Borland Racing Developments Spectrum 012 Formula Ford, the Sabre 02 revolutionised the Formula Vee category in Australia, and was immediately successful winning on debut, before going on to win an unprecedented, and record nineteen of twenty races that same year.
